Frequently Asked Questions

How long do the procedures take?

Usually Microblading/Soft Powder or Effortless Brows or Eyeliner are done in two sessions. The first takes two hours. Lips take a little longer. In the first session, the brow, eyeliner and lips are shaped and styled to the client’s preference, and pigment is applied. 4-6 weeks later, the client returns for the second session for the perfecting appointment This takes one to two hours depending on how much work needs to be done.

How long does permanent cosmetics take to heal?

It takes 14 days for outer healing. In that time any redness will fade and the initial darkness of the permanent makeup will begin to lighten. Inner healing takes 30 days. In that time the color will lighten over the 30 days as it completely sets in. Lips heal differently as they will peel for the first 5 days, then disappear and then come back darker in the first 3 weeks.

Why is it necessary to do a perfecting appointment?

Perfecting appointments are necessary because everyone heals differently and therefore the outcomes vary. Sometimes it is necessary to adjust the color and brow and liner thickness by adding more strokes or create a thicker eyeliner and adding more lip color. In the perfecting session, the final adjustments are made to assure the client’s satisfaction.

Can the perfecting appointment be done in less than four weeks?

This is not recommended because the healing needs to be completed before the final results are seen. Final adjustments should only be done after the initial work has completely healed.

Will I have to shave my eyebrows to get my eyebrows done?

No, I work within the hairs and actually when microblading I work to follow how your hair grows so that no one knows which is your hair and which has been microbladed. Microblading is done to enhance what you already have to make the eyebrows look as natural as possible. Microblading is a great solution for people who have over-plucked their eyebrows, or who have naturally very thin/light eyebrows and want to accentuate the look of eyebrows on their face. It is not necessary, nor recommended for a client to get rid of any natural hair he or she may already have.

What is the pain level I should expect?

I use the most current and best numbing products so that when I am working on you it feels pressure, not pain. I walk you through the process and constantly working to be sure you are comfortable.

How do you do eyeliner – that scares me?

Eyeliner is done with the eyes closed. I use only manual tools which is very gentle and effective to get the correct amount of pigment into your skin that allows your permanent cosmetics procedure to last. I use 3 – 4 types of numbing products and most of my clients say it feels like I am tugging on their eyelashes. I send you home with green tea bags to place on your eyes to bring down any swelling you may have.

How long does Microblading last?

Generally Microblading lasts 9 months to 1 1/2 years, depending on skin type…normal, oily, or dry and age…young or mature. There is only one layer of pigment in the skin, therefore it fades faster. Skincare also affects the duration of the pigments. To maintain the brows, a color boost may be done every 12 – 18 months.

How long do Molly's Signature Effortless Eyebrows Last?

Because there is microblading and shading in this eyebrow technique, the duration usually is 18 months to 2 years. There is more pigment implanted into the skin, therefore it fades slower.

How long do Soft Powder Eyebrows, Eyeliner and Lips last?

Because there is more pigment implanted throughout the area, you can expect that this technique will last 2-3 years before a color boost is needed.

Will I have to pay full price again when I get my color boosts?

No, my pricing is much less from 6-18 months and two to four years. Only after 5 years would you pay full price, less a loyalty discount.

What if I had my work done by someone else and it needs a color boost and/or correction?

I do color boosts of other artists work and corrective work, sometimes your colors fade or change and we talk extensively about what you would like the end result to be and we work to achieve that.

Are there any pre-care instructions?
  • Prior to the start of your session, avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen and any vitamins for 24 hours. Sometimes these have the effect of thinning your blood. If you are on blood thinning medication please consult your physician first. No medication should ever be discontinued without first consulting your physician.
  • No caffeine the day of your appointment. (It thins the blood and can causes the procedure to be more uncomfortable)
  • Avoid tanning to allow your natural skin tone to be assessed.
Who should NOT have Microblading?

What are some of the risks and complications with Permanent Cosmetics?

Proper procedures and precautions are used to ensure safe procedures. Sterilized tools and disposable tools are used in a sanitized environment. When pre and post care instructions are followed the risk of complications are minimal. Allergic reactions to pigments are very rare, but sometimes occur. For this reason, a pigment patch test for those with sensitive skin or to topical makeup product, gold , silver, nickel, or hair dyes should be patch tested a week in advance of the procedure.

How Do I Find Permanent Cosmetics Artist?

Carefully choose your artist. How well has she been trained? How long has she been in business? Is this all she does? Permanent Cosmetics is my full-time career. I was a makeup artists 37 years prior to switching careers 9 years ago and I LOVE my job!  I have done over 3000 procedures in 9 years.

In the State of Washington, there is no training required of any permanent cosmetic professional. You can just get a license and set up shop. Scary. I do a lot of corrective work because of this. I have a clean and sterile environment and all of my tools are disposable.

I am proud to say that I am Certified through the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals and proudly carry the CPCP credentials. I am honored to be a past Board Member of the SPCP and carried the title of Secretary and Quarterly Editor. I attend new training every 6 months to learn the most current trends, techniques and styles available across the world.

I have over 60 - 5 star rating in Google and you can read the many testimonials on my Facebook page as well.

Compare the work of various artists before choosing. Discuss your expectations and desired outcome, including the shape, style, and color you wish with the artist. Realize that faces are never perfectly symmetrical. Adjustments may be made during your appointment such as pigment discoloration and color correction.

As with any cosmetic or tattoo procedures, the best way to find a certified, reputable artist in your area is often by word-of-mouth referrals or legitimate customer reviews. You can also do some investigative research of your own on local artists.

What payment types do you accept?

Molly accepts all Major Credit Cards, VISA, MC, AMEX, DISCOVER, Cash & Checks.

In Lynnwood there is a 10.6% sales tax added.

Does Microblading Scar?

No. Microblading itself will not cause scarring. What can cause scarring is possibly the artist going too deep into the skin, the client's skin type if prone to scarring or picking at the healing skin. This is why it is extremely important to make sure the client knows NOT pick at any scabs or flaking skin after they have had a microblading procedure. Picking could result in the loss of pigment as well as scarring.

What Can I Expect After a Permanent Cosmetics Procedure?

The healing process after a permanent cosmetics procedure varies from client to client based on many factors. This could include, but is not limited to: the artist's technique, pigments used, aftercare instructions, as well as just overall how someone's body and skin reacts to the procedure. Some of the most common things clients can expect after a permanent cosmetics procedure are:

Approximate Daily Healing Schedule for Permanent Cosmetics

Eyebrows: Day 1-2

Your brows are approximately 20-40% darker, bolder and more solid than your healed result. Under the pigment, the skin is red and pigment has been deposited into the layer of skin containing dead skin cells; combined giving the appearance of darker color. There may be minimal swelling but because typically the eyebrow area does not retain much fluid, swelling will be limited. The top layers of skin will begin to shed on about day 3-5, and you will see a loss of color. This is normal. Do not scratch/ pick!

Day 3  Your eyebrows may begin to itch and the pigment may appear somewhat raised. Do not scratch/pick!

Days 4-6 The skin is now rapidly exfoliating and will shed evenly if left alone. The color under the exfoliating skin will continue to appear light until the epidermis takes on its more transparent characteristics.

Days 30-40 Now is the time to critique your brows, the tattoo has now become part of the dermis, seen under the epidermis.

Eyeliner:

Day 1  You may experience slightly puffy to swollen eyes, heavy lids, light sensitivity and bloodshot pupils. Your eyes may feel more swollen than they appear. Use the green tea bags I give you, get them wet, put in the freezer for 5 minutes and squeeze all the juices out and place on your eyelids with your eyes closed for 20 minutes. Anti-oxidants will help take the swelling down. Please try to sleep in an elevated position to help reduce swelling at night. You may not want to use your best pillowcase the first two nights.

Day 2 Eyes will be swollen and perhaps 'crusty' upon waking. The swelling will disappear from being in an upright position and increasing circulation to the area. Avoid heavy lifting, physical exertion and crying.

Day 3 Eyes will be less swollen, but still tight. The lash area will feel sore if touched.

Day 4 Pigment within the epidermis will begin to flake off in little stitch looking lines, although some people do not notice the exfoliation at all. Do not scratch/pick!

Day 5 Blinking helps to eliminate the small pieces of pigment and epidermis which has detached. Do not scratch/ pick!

Day 7 All shedding should be complete. You're safe to put your face back in the shower spray.

Lips heal differently than brows or eyeliner, so I wanted to give you a few extra helpful tips.

  • Use the Ointment Treatment that I give you for the first 2 weeks or longer, your lips will exfoliate rapidly in the first 5 days.
  • Do not kiss anyone for 3 days – your lips will be tender and sore.
  • No direct shower on your lips, no sauna, hot tub, etc. for 7 days.
  • When eating the first 3 days try to keep food off your lips (especially the 1st day)
  • Your lips will be dry for at least a month while they are healing and then they will go back to your normal texture.
  • The Color will fade in the first 5 days and you will wonder if any color held.
  • A week later your lips will get darker and a week after that it will get darker still as it heals with your skin tone.
  • Lip procedures may take up to 3 appointments to get the pigment to fill in the lips properly. Procedures will be 30-45 days apart to allow the lips to heal properly.
